We live in such an over communicated society so the more we focus and the more we position our business and our brand in the minds of our customers where there's the least amount of competition and that is different to the competition is so important and so critical. This key step is to make sure that we never waver from that positioning and what that focus is. So that over time people know exactly what we do and we're not changing that message and that positioning every day, but we are consistent and we never waver from that.

To summarise it, AdWords is more instant but probably costs you more upfront. SEO longer term but you can probably draw out that investment over a period of time. I think the other thing that people should know is that if you’re going to be doing SEO works or AdWords works and you're sending people to a website you want to make sure your website looks fantastic. So if you’re going to invest in SEO or AdWords firstly invest in getting your website sending the right message and looking aesthetically pleasing. You want people to trust you when they go to your website you want all the relevant information on there. If you’re a vet it’s all about trust and being comfortable. If you’re building homes you want the projects to look fantastic so make sure you send the right message. Spend the time and the investment to get your website looking great first before you add AdWords and SEO.

The first, which I talk about in all of our podcasts, videos and in our book is making sure that you are positioning your business and your brand in the minds of your customers that is different to the competition. The second key step is to make sure that we never waver from that positioning and what that focus is. The third key step is to communicate it frequently, so as often as possible. The fourth step is to communicate more than your competitors. So if you are communicating frequently and more than your competitors then you’re going to be seen and the opportunity for you to be found is much higher than the competition who don’t do anything or do it ad hoc or very minimal.

Because business owners are so close to the business, they’re in it every day but to communicate that in an easy way for someone that’s maybe not in your industry you have to just communicate it so easily. We live in such an over communicated society TV, Radio, social media, newsletters, workshops like it’s clutter. So we need to find a really simple way to cut through that clutter and not just in the pitch deck but in all your marketing touch points, so make sure that whatever that message is that you’re using it across social media, websites, everything.
